Prior to meeting my new wife, I had never been hunting before. Often, it’s the male who introduces his spouse to the sport, but my little lady comes from a family of hunters. She took me out a few times to hunt to see if I liked it, and I did. After she realized that it is something that I would love to do, she bought me a warm hunting jacket. This is because you must go out early in the morning to sit in a deer stand and wait for the deer to come by. It is often very cold in the stand. I find it all to be very peaceful, and it is good bonding time for the two of us.
I went to visit a cousin, and he told me that the rodeo was in town. Having never been to a rodeo, I was quite curious to go to one. Halfway through the event, I met my future wife. She was there with her sisters and some friends. It was love at first sight for me. Even though I lived four states away, that thought never crossed my mind at first. I was smitten, and all I cared about was spending as much time as I could with her before I left to fly home.
Having never even been out to the country before for anything but a vacation, it was pretty interesting to move out here to be with her full time. As I said, she comes from a hunting family. Her dad owns a ranch. Often, they leave to go to the ranch early on a Saturday or Sunday morning at about 4AM. They bundle up in warm clothing. Each family member brings a thermos of coffee with them. Then, everyone climbs the ladder attached to each deer stand to get inside and wait. Inside, there are nice blankets to help you stay warm, too. The coffee really helps with that, too.
